Good information on probiotic KEFIR

This little e-book is chock-full of great information on caring for kefir grains (both dairy and water) as well as complete instructions for making the kefir, for resting the grains and even for drying the grains to store for use later on. There is a very cool section on history of kefir and how it came to be available to modernity. The end of the book also has some uncommon recipes for kefir cheese. This is a great book to encourage non-kefir folks to give it a try!

Good information

I really liked this book. I have been excited to try fermented foods after realizing that a high percentage of our immune system is in our intestinal tract. This book is easy to understand and basic--just what I needed. I have ordered my inexpensive kefir grains and they arrive tomorrow, so I will make my first batch then. So now I'm updating this review a month later. I love my kefir experience and am so glad that I got this book. I refer to it often, and am really happy about the information in it. We all feel better since we are drinking the Kefir, even my 89 year old mother-in-law! She had serious elimination problems before, and now doesn't. She really believes in Kefir, now, too!

Fresh is Always Better!

I've been on the Raw Vegan Food path, on and off for a while now...

And whilst I noticed afew of the comments, about how easily it is available in the shops, yes it is, but unless you're made of money it's very difficult to eat this way long-term, Unless you start at home! ~I don't know about you, but it isn't cheap buying these kinds of products at health food stores, secondly the product isn't nearly as refreshing or staisfying as making it yourself!

I noticed since the summer of 2011, that the more cultured foods, yogurts, and kefirs I consumed on a regular basis, my energy really did go through the roof, and I felt allot more supple and balanced in the overall health arena, that I didn't necessarily really feel was there before, so I've definitely been looking at more ways to top-up! lol

I used to enjoy the occasional bowl of 'ice-cream', and a 'lollypop' here 'n' there, but noticed I would get a thrush like coating on my tongue, (I know yuk right?), and was later told by a friend it was an imbalance of the Candida albicans, a direct result of too much processed sugar entering the body, So I must have been very sensitive to it.

So that was mainly my reason for picking up this little unassuming guide, and see if I could add to my already growing library (and health). I found the readability good, its ease of use, and actual recipes to be quite helpful. I especially liked the way the author so honestly talked about 'pasteurization', that in some cases, kills 99.9999% of viable micro-organisms so necessary for healthy digestion.

I really also Loved! by the way, the story the author tells us about; how Kefir truly came to be about, and was really interesting to say the least! I would have had, No Idea about that, had I not read it here in this book!

I loved the recipe for 'Coconut Milk Kefir', it turned out Great! on only my first try! ~it was quite easy to follow the authors well-thought-out instructions, and most of the ingredients can just as easily be found in your local supermarkets or grocery stores. Believe it or not, there's actually something in this book that is sooo Hard to find in other books of this nature, and that is the: "Kefir Troublshooting" Section?? LOL! Yes, there's actually a section which holds you by the hands if you find yourself crying over 'spilt milk', and believe me ! it does happen, it takes a few tries for Most people to get the delicate balance Right! the first time, though I was lucky, and pretty much knew what I was doing, but for any one else just starting-out, this section proves invaluable to anyone looking to begin hand-making cultured Kefir's at home.

The Recipes Are Also Pretty Good; So Far I've tried The 'Kream Soda', and the 'Cranberry Kefir', after making my Original batch, the Results were quite pleasing, and you can Vary the amount of 'Tang' you're after. Yum!

This is definitely a comprehensive, yet simple, and easy to follow 'A-Z' Guide on starting your very-own 'Kefir Cocktail Center' at Home, Everyone's Gonna Want One! Thoroughly Recommended!

Pros: Very Easy To Follow Instructions, and Great Recipes!
Cons: Maybe Too Much Choice! LOL! ~You'll have to Decide on Which Flavor You MOST Desire!
