TREVOR L. STROME, MSc, PMP, is the Analytics and Process Improvement Lead for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Emergency Program. Couldn't even finish....

I don't know the author or if she has other books, this was the first one of hers that I tried. I got the sample and was interested enough after reading that to purchase the book. Big mistake! I liked the concept and was hoping it was similar to Samantha Young's series The Fire Spirits, which is also about Djinn. I didn't even make it half way through without wanting to throw it against the wall.

Kyra and her dad have always moved around and been on the run from a mysterious group of people. Her dad has kept silent about her past, her mother, and this group of people so ends up seriously surprised when this group of teenagers come and when fighting ensues they have special abilities. Needless to say they take Kyra and leave her dad beaten pretty bad. During the course of her abduction she tries to escape a few times but to no avail. At this point in the book I was liking Kyra, she seemed capable, smart, and scrappy. I liked that she didn't just give up without a fight.

When they finally get her to the compound she is introduced to two people who claim to be her real parents, claiming her dad kidnapped her as a young child. She of course does not believe this and tells them so. The first night she makes an attempt to escape only to be thwarted by Will, the man assigned to guard her and the one who abducted her from her home to bring her to this compound. He shows her a picture of her as a baby in the arms of the woman claiming to be her mom. The same picture that she has had on her nightstand growing up, the only link to her mother she has ever had. Only in her picture there was no face attached to the body holding her. This is enough, this one picture shown to her by the man who for all she know abducted her, to believe Will and her bio parents that everything is as they say and that her father, the man who raised her and showed her unconditional love must have been lying to her the whole time and that she should condemn him.

I'm sorry but how would one picture change your mind? Especially about the only parent you have ever known. I would never take the word of strangers over my dad. It was just to unbelievable. She seemed so gullible and pathetic. Obviously something happened and people might not be who they say they are but her quick reaction to this flimsy evidence just upset me. I tried to push my way through hoping that it got better but when she tries to get to know her "real" parents better there was something obviously off with them. the father wasn't happy about her being there and the mother was just weird. I get the author wanting to lead the reader down this path of showing not all is how it seems, maybe by dropping bread crumbs along the way, but she just threw it in your face that something was wrong. There was no subtlety here.

So first lets condemn your father, and second when your bio parents are acting strange and unhappy to see you after having lost you for all those years and you still believe them, then I have to say you are just an idiot. Not only that but after what 24 hours with Will, she likes him and trusts him. Smart choice, the boy might be cute but he just kidnapped you, beat up your dad, is guarding you from leaving this compound but sure he showed you kindness so it makes sense to instantly trust him right?

I had to stop at that point.

Maybe it gets better in time but I doubt it. I say save your money and buy something else...

Very original plot!

First a quick thanks to the author for giving me a copy of the book when I won a giveaway! I love winning books and this was a great prize!

Cover! I think this cover is really awesome. The colors are great and it gives an air of mystery, but once you read the story it all comes together.

I went through emotions in this book just like Kyra did. At first everything was happy and then - BOOM - your life turns upside down. I went up and down with her and I was confused during part of the book -wondering where these plot turns were going to go. However, things progress nicely and I enjoyed how time moved pretty quickly. If something wasn't important then we didn't hear about it, which is how I like my books to go. If there's a three week period and only one event goes on then I don't need to hear about all three weeks, which is something that Laura Catherine does nicely.

I admit that I was shocked that the ending was the ending. I went to turn the book and...nothing. I was pretty sad that it ended! Remember how I said that there were ups and downs? Make sure to grab some tissues towards the ending, you're going to need them.

If you guys like romance (you have to if you're here right?) then you'll be in for a treat. At one point it looks like not a love triangle, but a rectangle...although not really? You'll just have to read this to understand.

I loved all the mythology that was in the book. I've never really looked in the Djinn so it was really interesting to look at something that isn't as popular as say, vampires are. Very original content and I was super pleased! Book two next?!?

Very different from typical YA books

Very different from the normal "vampire and werewolves" fare. That is why I was drawn to this book. I recently read the Forbidden Trilogy by Karpov Kinrade(I may do a post on it soon), and this kind of reminds me of that series mixed in with one I love, but have yet to finish, called The Significance Series by Shelly Crane.

Kyra is a very strong character. Very strong-willed, smart, resourceful. She analyzes her situation and tries not to get too emotional.

I don't want to give any of the twists and turns away at all, but this is probably one of the least predictable YA novels I have ever read. You think you know where it's going and WHAM! a new twist. That is probably why I was up until 3 a.m. last night finishing this book. Characters aren't stereotypical, events aren't what they seem. Very refreshing in this genre.

I found myself wishing this book was longer. I wanted to know more about the Blooders, the history of the djinn and their wars. I guess if this is going to be a trilogy, there is more to come.

I also like the social commentary. Most of the time I try to ignore that, but the commentary in this book was written in such a way that it wasn't preachy, it wasn't political. It was just part of the story and events weren't contrived to get the point across. It was woven more naturally into the story.

This is strictly YA fare as well, I would be comfortable recommending it to a younger teen. I wish books like these were written when I was younger!!!

It's difficult to describe in polite language how bad this book is

It's difficult to describe in polite language how bad this book is. It is full of typos and leaves out a lot of critical information. When you are tested, you will come across numerous important terms never mentioned in this book, especially regarding regulation. The online prep test is just as bad. Again, there are numerous typos, awkwardly worded questions, and even better, questions with incorrect answers. The questions in the test bank were clearly generated by computer and not proof-written. Some of the test questions are such a jumble of words and grammar they make no sense at all. There are many duplicate questions. Also, the practice questions are too easy; the level of difficulty is much higher on the actual exam. As an industry veteran I was able to muddle through and pass the exam despite this book, but a newcomer will be woefully under-prepared if this terrible book is their only study material. This is a very expensive book, but the editors of this book and prep test should be embarrassed regardless of the price. Please don't buy this book. One other note: the title of this book is updated every year to reflect the current year, so whenever the title changes, all the prior bad reviews go away. Go look back at the reviews for the 2015 edition and you'll see similar comments to mine. I wish I had done that.

Good book overall / Few errors that should be corrected

Background info: Having worked as a Futures Trader outside the US, I wasn't required to write the Series 3 exam. Recently, I applied to a few futures trading positions in the US and thought it would be a good idea to write the exam just in case. Aside from the regulation chapter, I was already familiar and comfortable with the concepts explained in this book.

Book review: It's a good book overall. It explains concepts well without over-complicating them. However, for the price you pay, and the fact that they release a new edition every year, it's such a shame that there are errors in the book. I'm not talking about grammatical errors or typos because that's not the end of the world when you're reading text book material; there are complicated concepts that the book explains incorrectly! To be fair, there are very few of these errors, but there shouldn't be any at all! Even one is too many. If you don't have a strong background in Futures you will not catch these errors, and if you do, you will waste valuable time questioning yourself and making sure you are right because the book says otherwise.

Overall, I still recommend this book. It's a bit pricey if you buy the paper version, so I bought the kindle version. I enjoyed reading it and it explains concepts clearly (except for the few errors I mentioned above).

Amazing book and Upledger's ideas make sense!

This book may bring great relief to many sufferer's of chronic pain problems, certain social behavior disorders I imagine, various types of awkwardness in human movement and behavior. This man was highly dedicated and has large numbers of studies and results that will be useful to doctors of the future or anyone seeking relief from medical problems relating to the nervous system. We need to remember the nervous system is set up so that what you see or think will be reflected in some neurohormone effect in some part of the body. Over time there can be changes that cause what is thought of as a disease or a discomfort. Many times, people like Upledger will have the answers when the patient has obtained no relief from standard Western Medicine. I have several of his books and find them to be fascinating and useful. This book seemed to be written more for the therapist of Craniosacral therapy than the patient, but it gives you an idea of what Crainiosacral therapy is and you can find a therapist in your area no doubt. I would also read one of Dr John Sarno's books to understand the Mind-Body connection and as an MD he gives many examples of cases he has treated as well to relieve people's medical problems such as back pain.Why not have an open mind? It is not invasive as surgery would be and not as expensive!

Great Guidelines

Since I am a CranioSacral Therapist, this is one of my favorite books of all time. I was really able to connect with Dr. John in this book and understand how and why he developed CranioSacral Therapy. By setting up the Upledger Institute, Clinic, and Foundation in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, he was able to bring this to the rest of the world by creating the largest traveling Healing Arts Institute. And I'm so glad he did, because it changed my life and my life's work...for the better!

Interesting and inspiring

Very interesting description of Dr. John Upledger's experience with the body systems and techniques he eventually named Cranio-sacral therapy. I am not a health professional, but there was enough anecdotes and story to hold my interest throughout. Reading this has sparked my desire to find out more about this very gentle, yet powerful method, particularly in its possible application to learning disabilities.
