A must have!

I have been practicing a ketogenic diet for a few months now and it has absolutely change my perspective of the Standard American Diet. I feel great when consuming a very low amount of carbs and I don't think I'll ever go back to the SAD diet. One thing I found troubling though when practicing a ketogenic diet was that I was eating very bland meals all of the time.. So when I stumbled upon this book, my love for Asian inspired dishes made me purchase it immediately! This has completely transformed my diet in the best way possible! All of the recipes in here are delicious and very quick and easy to make! If you're on a ketogenic diet but are lacking motivation to due bland meals, buy this book! It makes the diet so much easier. Plus all of the nutrition facts are listed for each recipe so counting your macros could not be easier! Highly recommended cookbook! I think I will be purchasing a hard copy soon so that I always have it handy in the kitchen.

Strategic Management of Health Care Organizations (1st edition 1992) became the leading authority in the US – a highly successful text demonstrating the thought processes and activities for health care managers to become strategic thinkers with the critical skills to evaluate their fast-changing environment. Health care leaders have found that strategic thinking, strategic planning, and managing strategic momentum are essential for coping with the dynamics of the health care industry.

Strategic management has become the single clearest manifestation for effective leadership of health care organizations. Now in its 7th edition, Strategic Management for Health Care Organizations continues to advocate the importance of strategic thinking and clearly differentiate strategic thinking, strategic planning, and managing strategic momentum. 4 Stars for content. Like 2 stars for kindle e-book version. The inability to copy and paste quotes (or questions to place into a word document) is beyond annoying. The lack of page numbers makes locating assignments a ridiculous chore. I will pay $5-$10 more for the VitalSource version next time which not only allows me to copy and paste, but provides me with a citation as well. Also, VitalSource includes page numbers. This was the first and last time I will use Amazon for an e-textbook, very sorry to say.

Considered as the foremost Vastu expert in India, VastuShastri Khushdeep Bansal was born in Punjab in 1972. While studying Electronics Engineering in 1989, an observation struck his mind that certain equipments worked perfectly in one particular corner of the laboratory while in the opposite corner they did not. Thus, began his interest in the effect of built-up Space and Earth energies on human mind and machines. In 1992, instead of joining a lucrative software job in United States, he joined a Gurukul in Central India, to learn Vastu Shastra in an authentic way. The Gurukul helped him hone his inborn skills in Vastu with additional knowledge of Samkhya Yoga and Astrology. Samkhya Yoga is the basis of Ayurveda, Yoga and Vastu Shastra. Astrology helps to study the potential a person is carrying by birth, and defines the purpose of one's being on this planet.
With the knowledge of Indian Sciences and Electronic Engineering, Khushdeep started exploring the secrets behind the rise and fall of political powers in buildings; and growth and failures of business empires. Intensive research in USA and Europe made it clear to him, what combinations of earth energies and space designs made these countries so powerful, politically and in the business world.
In 1997, Khushdeep gave a major insight on Vastu faults in the Indian Parliament House due to the library building, which was being built next to it. This fault was causing instability of the Indian Government, which he corrected later.
Khushdeep has documented more than 10,000 successfully applied MahaVastu™ case studies and distilled the results to develop scientific MahaVastu™ application procedures. First Steps Towards a Green Design

I am a property owner considering LEED Certification for a building remodel. As a starting poijnt, I have read the LEED guidelines at the Green Building Council website. However, I was looking for something more substantial to help understand the process. "The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design" fills that purpose.

This Guidebook is written by the HOK Architectural firm which has been one of the leaders in sustainable design. The book has three sections. The first chapters are a check list of design guidelines and questions that one needs to explore during the LEED design process. The second section looks at sustainability issues as related to certain building types and the final section are a series of short articles on LEED projects the firm has worked on.

This Guidebook is on its Second Edition and is invaluable for all those interested in LEED certification. It is well written and clearly organized. It is an expensive book but well worth the price. It is a great introduction into what is becoming an important area of design. Highly recommended.

Integrated Review of Two Top Books That Mesh Well

Although I normally read books in twos and threes on the same topic to gain varied perspectives, this is the first time I am writing a single review encompassing two books. They mesh together so well that I cannot imagine studying this subject without having BOTH in hand.

The two books are Sun, Wind & Light: Architectural Design Strategies, 2nd Edition and The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design.

Start with the introduction in the Guidebook, which is blessed with a Foreword from Paul Hawken and see especially page 13 where the cost benefits are shown, with 48% energy savings for Gold, 30% for Silver, and 28% for Certified. See also the illustration on page 15 that I have reproduced in the image I am loading for both books: the old decision model was Cost at the top, with Schedule and Quality anchoring the triangle. the new decision model still has cost at the top, but Schedule and Human Health, Safety, & Comfort are on corners of this new pentagon, and the bottom is achored by Quality and Ecology, or what Paul Hawken would call in his books, "true cost" to the Earth and Humanitas.

NOW shift to the Contents and the Detailed Contents of Sun, Wind, & Light. As one reviewer notes, this is a course book. I did not recognize it as such, I saw it as one of the most gifted complete collection of factors to learn and apply that I have ever seen for ANY topic of study. The content and organization of this book is nothing short of Nobel-level "wow." Finish going through this book.

NOW go back to the first 218 pages of the Handbook, and study the checklists and varied helpful boxes and explanations. The rest of the book (217-459) is case studies of specific buildings, each a few pages, that can be left for last.

At this point, I went into the Glossaries and Bibliographies of both books. Each is distinct, neither supplants the other. They must be taken together. I read Glossaries, and Indices, as content, and use them as a form of "second look" (in extremely complex books, this is actually where I start).

NOW go back to the Case Studies in the Handbook, and read each from the point of view of what "take away" lessons are there for your own building.

Reading these two books was a real treat. Outside my office kitchen is a deck with an 11 point system for attracting birds from bluebirds and bluejays to cardinals, gold finches, two kinds of woodpecker, and a flicker as well as the more common birds. I believe in diversity, and I believe that if we don't get our act together and start living up to the ideals of Natural Capitalism (see other recommended books below), our world will go sterile and dark before out great-grandchilden can share in the beauty of this planet. These two books are part of the solution, and I am in serious awe of those who made them available to all of us, and at reasonable prices to boot. Well done!!!

A fully comprehensive, up-to-date and well organized compendium of sustainable design and construction techniques, this book seems to keep fining its way onto my desk again and again for various projects. There are piles of publications on sustainability, this one however, is profound in its completeness, usefulness and quality of information.

A review from a newbie DSLR user.

I decided I wanted to stop taking pictures and start making better pictures. I purchased an entry level Nikon D3300. I have no DSLR experience. The owner's manual is dry equipment instruction. This book illustrates the camera functions and puts those functions into cause and effect context. The color illustrations and tips are beginner friendly.

The author suggests completing the end of chapter exercises. The end of chapter exercises gave me bad flashbacks of educational textbooks. I read through the book and did not perform the end of chapter exercises. It was a big mistake. Each end of chapter exercise reinforces skill sets in incremental progression. I read through the book again. This time I completed the end of chapter exercises.

Fantastic introduction

This is a great book for a beginner. We bough a Nikon D3300 as an intro DSLR because we wanted to get into photography. This book is great at getting you confident in shooting in manual mode fairly quickly. I like that it "dives right in" to the professional modes and largely skips over the automatic modes. That is important to actually learn how things work. I also appreciate the flow of the book--it starts out explaining what different camera settings are, and then it moves into chapters on how to shoot good portraits, landscapes, etc.

The author is straightforward and easy to read. A good balance of informality so all the technical terms do not get overwhelming.

This is a book more for beginners. If you are a beginner and want to get confident in using your DSLR, I recommend this!

I wanted a guide that would introduce me to the basic concepts of photography while teaching me how to use my new camera - this book does exactly that! I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to use their camera, and even to those who may already know the basics, you'll pick up some helpful hints and tricks along the way!

"Philokalia" is probably the second greatest book (all 4 volumes of it) ever written. It is the Orthodox Christian spirituality exposed in the purest form. But this book is not for non-Orthodox Christians, neither is it for every Orthodox Christian.
It is for those who have a spiritual father who can guide them through the book and insure that they do not fall into delusion. This book, as many other great ascetical and spiritual classics, should only be read with the blessing of an experienced spiritual father.

Bennett offers a great insight into the manner in which the media works. The media's job is to make money for their parent companies. To that end the media needs to keep viewers watching their product. This, however, does not mean that better information will be produced by the media in order to keep people watching their product. Rather, it means they will do what they need to keep viewers regardless of whether this means that will produce better information for their viewers. For instance, they might provide more information about celebrities or entertainment. In this instance, they would be engaging in "infotainment," rather than informing the public. Bennett says all of this clearly and in a more engaging manner using many real life examples. Get it and see what the media does and why it fails us!!!

I was surprised I liked this book.

This book was required for a journalism class I'm taking. I'm glad it was or I'd never have considered reading it. I despise politics and was dreading taking this class and reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised by this author's honest and direct approach to explaining the complicated relationship between journalists and politics. I'm in my senior year of college, and this is perhaps the only one of my school books that I'll happily save to re-read again someday. This version was also cheaper than the one my university bookstore was selling; same edition but printed by a different publisher. Score.
