An excellent and enjoyable collection of the Titans!!!
By bradbrewing
I've read the strip on the website. This tome provides a high quality image as well as several bonuses than just the first series. If this is the quality I get with each Table Titan volume, I will begin to support its future volumes. Though its built around characters playing DND, there is so much more than that, and if you are into the fantasy genre or gaming in general, you will adore this book. Titans Never Quit!!!!

Fun and hilarious comic for DnD fans, though non-DnD-ers will enjoy it as well
By Kenya Starflight
When I first picked up this graphic novel, I had no idea it was based on a webcomic -- I was simply intrigued by the art style and the fact that it was a graphic novel about "Dungeons and Dragons" players. I'm only passingly familiar with "PvP" and hadn't read the "Table Titans" spinoff, but figured I could give the guy's work a shot. DnD is a topic long regarded as "dorky" and "geeky," but is ripe for potential in both dramatic and humorous terms, and I was eager to see what kind of story "Table Titans" would shape up to be. And I was pleasantly surprised to find it was both a fun adventure story and a hilarious read, and while DnD fans will get the most out of it, it's still readily accessible to people not familiar with the game as well.
The titular "Table Titans" are a band of three DnD players out to win the prestigious Winotaur, a trophy given to whichever adventure party can rack up the most prestige points -- cynical and victory-hungry Alan, his long-suffering buddy Andrew, and gung-ho character-driven Val. When they take up a new adventure with a new Dungeon Master, new characters, and a new teammate in the form of goofy newbie Darby, they find their new characters tackling a village beset by a murderous beast, and must not only contend with some of DnD's most infamous monsters but with a plotting mayor, a former adventurer who knows more than he lets on, and each other's shenanigans. And that's not even taking into account the nasty attitude of the leader of their worst rivals, the Dungeon Dogs...
I've only seen occasional "PvP" strips, but it looks like the art style of "Table Titans" tones down the extreme stylized look of "PvP." The characters look more human and less cartoony, though not to the degree where they fall into the Uncanny Valley, and environments, objects, and characters all hold more detail than "PvP" tends to provide. It hits a nice balance between realistic and stylized, and is a fun and dynamic style that fits the subject matter of an adventure comic well. And the colors are well-done as well, colorful without being garish.
The characters are a fun bunch too -- they fit some of the standard roles one often sees in DnD groups, but have their own personality quirks that make them unique. Whether they're trying to find loopholes in the game rules, enthusiastically delving into their characters, or just delighting in throwing the adventure off the rails, they're obviously having fun, even if it's at the expense of a long-suffering DM, and it's hard not to smile at that. And while the "villain" is one of those "love to hate her" types, she does show a snippet of humanity as well, not just being a stock bully or bad guy.
The adventure itself is fairly cliche, but that's part of the point -- DnD is rife with cliches and tropes of fantasy, especially given that the characters are playing a pre-fab module instead of a custom adventure. The fun comes from throwing a group of people with modern-day sensibilities and quirky personalities into said cliche-fantasy world, and seeing how they react to it. And it is delightful.
As a bonus, this volume comes with a short outline of how "Table Titans" came to be (a spinoff of Scott Kurtz's aforementioned "PvP" comic), as well as a handful of strips detailing some of the Titans' adventures from the webcomic. There are also character sketches showing the development of the designs, and even a section of DnD stories shared by readers from the website.
If you're a DnD fan, "Table Titans" will be a delightful read for you, and you'll probably recognize some of yourself or your fellow gamers in the characters. Even if you're not a fan of the game, however, this is a highly enjoyable comic, with fun art and characters and a story that is shaping up to be an epic one, both in-game and in "real life." I intend to follow this one...
